	Dutchman Inlay Also referred to as a "Butterfly" or "Bowtie" inlays or "splines" are used to strengthen a check or crack in a natural slab. These cracks are a natural feature of the wood and are due to stresses that occur during the drying process. Butterfly inlays stop the crack from progressing as well as add an interesting yet understated design element. Inlays can be the same wood, or a wood of another species, adding an interesting contrast.
